Reiki is a powerful Japanese healing technique. It uses a gentle touch to promote relaxation and wellbeing. It is a practice of the body’s natural healing ability being boosted and releasing any blockages that may have occurred in your physical or spiritual body.
What is the history of reiki?
Reiki is an ancient practice dating back to ancient tibet. However the modern practice of reiki was rediscovered in Japan by Dr. Mikao Usui in the 19th century. Dr. Usui embarked on a search for answers to the healing miracles that are known. Through extensive study of religious texts and a 21-day meditation and fast on a sacred mountain, Dr. Usui had a mystical experience where he received the healing energy of reiki.
After this profound encounter, Dr. Usui established the Usui Reiki Ryoho clinic and society. Under his guidance, the popularity of reiki grew. After his passing, one of his students, Chujiro Hayashi, continued to develop and expand the practice of reiki. It was through Hayashi that reiki eventually made its way to the western world. Hawayo Takata learned the practice from Hayashi and popularised it in the United States and further. Today, reiki practitioners continue to incorporate the teachings of these early masters.
What happens during a reiki session?
During a reiki session I will place my hands lightly on or just above your body, depending on your preference, usually for a few minutes per area. You may feel tingling or hot and cold sensations in the area I am working on or possibly elsewhere in your body. You may also see colours, vivid pictures or scenarios. You could also think of what may seem to be random things. Or you might not see, hear, think, feel anything at all, this is all completely normal.
What do I wear?
You wear whatever you are comfortable in. You will stay fully clothed apart from a coat and shoes.
How does the first reiki session work?
When you arrive, we will sit together and go through a consultation form to cover some emergency contact and some medical information. We will then discuss what you are wanting to achieve from reiki and your expectations. Once you are comfortable to move on to the reiki treatment I will step out of the room to wash my hands and ground myself while you take your coat and shoes off and hop onto the couch. A step stool is there and alternative arrangements can be made if needed. I will then come back into the room and make sure you are comfortable, we will then begin with the reiki healing holds. Usually starting at your head and working my way down to your feet during the treatment. I will sometimes start at your feet if it is needed.
What are the potential benefits?
You can experience lessening anxiety and stress. Reiki can improve your sleep, reduce blood pressure, and reduce pain. Reiki can instil a more positive outlook on life through an elevated state of mindfulness, this in turn can improve your mental and physical wellbeing. Reiki helps support your natural healing process, which can help with chronic pain, hypertension, detoxifying your body, and dissolves energy blocks.
What is distance Reiki?
Distance Reiki also known as Remote Reiki or Virtual Reiki, is a form of Reiki healing that doesn't require the recipient to be anywhere near the practitioner. This means you could receive Reiki from the other side of the world. It works in exactly the same way, you just need to have a space that you can relax without interruption while we are on a call during the treatment. You could experience all the same things as with a regular hands on Reiki treatment, while it may take a few sessions to feel the benefits, many clients actually prefer Distance Reiki to regular hands-on Reiki.
